Overview

After using the Nothing Phone 4b as my main handset, I noticed right away how different it feels from older models. Nothing dropped the see-through back panel this time. Instead, you get a clean matte plastic back and a single Glyph light strip on the rear. It focuses on the basics: long battery life, clean software, and a steady daily experience.

So, here is my honest take on how the phone performs across its build, display, chipset, cameras, and battery.

Key highlights

  • 6.77-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display with up to 2000 nits peak HDR brightness and 480Hz PWM dimming.

  • 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor with 8GB RAM for fluid multitasking and stable mid-tier gaming.

  • Bloat-free Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16 with 3 promised major OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches.

  • 50MP primary camera with OIS alongside an 8MP ultrawide lens, 16MP selfie camera, and 1080p video portrait support.

  • Long-lasting 5200 mAh battery with 33W fast charging and 7.5W reverse wired charging support.

  • Matte plastic body with IP64 dust and splash resistance, plus a functional single Glyph Bar for notifications and timers.

Design and Build:

Holding the Nothing Phone 4b feels solid, though it has some weight at 210 grams. It measures 164.4 x 78.2 x 8.6 mm. Both the side frame and back cover are made of plastic, while the front gets Dragontail Pro Glass.

The matte finish on the back does a great job keeping smudges and fingerprints away. It also comes with an IP64 rating, so water splashes or light rain will not harm it.

On the back, you will find a single light strip called the Glyph Bar instead of multiple light zones. You can use it as a timer, a volume indicator, or a charging level bar. The phone comes in three colors: Black, White, and Blue.

Display:

The phone has a 6.77-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2344 pixels). It runs at a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling through apps and social feeds feel fast.

Under direct sunlight, the screen gets bright enough to read messages easily, reaching up to 1200 nits in high brightness mode and 2000 nits during HDR playback. It also uses 480Hz PWM dimming, which helps reduce eye strain when you look at the screen in dark rooms before sleeping.

Performance and Gaming:

Under the hood, the device runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor built on a 4nm process. The core setup includes:

  • 1 prime core running at 2.3 GHz
  • 3 performance cores running at 2.2 GHz
  • 4 power-saving cores running at 1.8 GHz
  • Adreno 810 graphics unit

You get 8GB of RAM and a choice between 128GB or 256GB of storage. Note that there is no slot for a microSD memory card.

For regular tasks like chatting, browsing the web, and running multiple apps at once, the phone runs without lag.

When it comes to gaming, popular titles like PUBG Mobile run well on medium settings. On heavier games like Genshin Impact, the frame rate stays smooth for about twenty minutes before the phone warms up and drops a few frames. The storage speed is UFS 2.2, so installing very large games takes slightly longer compared to higher-end phones.

Software:

The software is easily one of the best parts of this phone. It comes with Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16 right out of the box. Nothing promises three major Android version updates and security support for years.

The software has a clean black-and-white look with custom dot-style widgets. There are almost no unwanted pre-installed apps. A feature called Essential Space lets you pin quick notes and simple tools to your lock screen. The whole interface feels smooth and light.

Camera:

The camera setup is where Nothing made noticeable compromises. Unlike the Phone 4a, there is no telephoto lens here.

  • 50MP Main Camera: Features an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). In bright daylight, daylight shots come out sharp with natural colors and balanced dynamic range. In low light, the smaller sensor shows its limits with softer details and visible noise, though OIS helps keep shots steady.
  • 8MP Ultrawide Camera: Has a 120-degree field of view. It is useful for wide landscape and group shots in good light, but details get noticeably soft around the corners, and it struggles in the dark.
  • 16MP Selfie Camera: Sits in the front display cutout and takes clean, natural selfies with decent dynamic range for daily social posts.
  • Video and Portraits: The main camera shoots video up to 4K at 30 fps with decent stabilization. It also supports video portrait mode at 1080p, which adds background blur behind people while filming.

Audio, Fingerprint, and Connections

The phone has stereo speakers that get loud enough for YouTube videos and podcasts, though the bass is light. It does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you will need wireless earbuds or a USB-C adapter.

The fingerprint scanner sits under the screen. It is fast and unlocks the phone reliably. For connectivity, the device includes dual SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, and a USB-C port for charging and data transfer.

Battery Life and Charging

Inside, there is a large 5200 mAh battery. Thanks to the efficient processor, battery life is great. During normal daily use with the 120Hz display on, I easily got between 7 and 8 hours of screen time. It will easily last a full day on a single charge, even with heavy use.

The charging speed tops out at 33W. It takes around 70 minutes to charge the phone from empty to full. Keep in mind that Nothing does not include a charger in the box, and the phone does not support wireless charging.

My Final Take

Using the Nothing Phone 4b daily made me appreciate simple reliability over flashy extras. I quickly stopped missing the clear glass back because the matte finish stays completely smudge-free, and the battery easily carried me through heavy days without any charging stress. It has its trade-offs, like a basic ultrawide camera and slower 33W charging, but for clean software, dependable battery life, and a great 120Hz display, it has been an amazing daily companion.
