Nothing Phone (4b): An Overview

Design and build

Nothing became famous for phones with see-through backs. The Phone (4b) goes for a calmer look with a matte back that does not show fingerprints much. It feels mature in your hand but it still does not look like any other phone. The best part is the Glyph Bar. It is a small light strip next to the cameras that glows when you get a notification and shows how much your phone has charged. You can also set it up for your favourite contacts. Leave the phone face-down on your desk and you will still know who is calling.

The phone is 8.6mm thick and weighs 210g. It feels solid without being too heavy. The IP64 rating protects it from dust and splashes of water. It is not made to go under water so keep it away from pools and sinks. You can buy it in Black, Blue or White.

Display

The screen is the first thing you will love about this phone. The 6.77-inch AMOLED display has a Full HD+ resolution so text looks sharp and colours look rich. Black looks truly black. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling feel smooth. It also slows down when you read or watch something still and this saves battery. Touch response goes up to 1000Hz so games feel quick and snappy.

The display gets very bright too. At 2000 nits it is easy to read even in strong sunlight. That is a big help on sunny days in Nepal. Dragontail Pro Glass keeps the screen safe from daily wear and the in-display fingerprint sensor lets you unlock with one touch.

Performance

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chip is built on a 4nm process. This helps it use less power and run smoothly. Chatting and scrolling social media feel easy. So do watching videos and playing popular games at normal settings. With 8GB of RAM your apps stay open in the background so you do not wait for them to reload.

This phone suits students, office workers and everyday users best. It also works well for people who switch between many apps. If you want top speed for heavy games you may want a more powerful phone. The 128GB storage is fast and enough for most people. There is no memory card slot though. If you shoot lots of 4K videos or save big files it is smart to use cloud backup.

Software

The phone runs Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16 and it is one of the cleanest software experiences you can get. There are no extra apps you do not need and no messy menus. You get a smooth and fast interface with a fun dot-matrix style that matches the phone. Nothing promises three years of major Android updates and up to six years of security patches. So your phone stays safe for a long time. If you like to keep your phone for four or five years this is a big plus.

Camera

The 50MP main camera has an f/1.8 lens with both OIS and EIS. This really helps at night because photos come out brighter and clearer and your videos stay steady even when you hold the phone by hand. The 8MP ultra-wide camera is great when you want more in the picture. Use it for group photos or travel shots and big views.

You can record videos up to 4K at 30fps. That is more than enough for vlogs and reels. For selfies and video calls there is a 16MP front camera.

Battery

The 5,200mAh battery is made to last a full day of normal use. That means calls and chats and videos and some gaming. The efficient chip and the smart AMOLED screen help the battery last longer. When it runs low the 33W fast charging fills it up quickly. The 7.5W reverse charging can power your earbuds or smartwatch when they need a quick top up. A charger does not come in the box so you will need to buy a 33W adapter.
