Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: An Overview

Design and build

The Phone (4a) Pro looks very different from older Nothing phones. The see-through back is gone. In its place you get a flat and clean back with a camera part that sticks out. It feels premium and strong thanks to the aluminum frame.

The biggest new thing is the Glyph Matrix. It is a round set of lights on the back that works like a tiny screen. It covers over 57% more area than before and is twice as bright at around 3000 nits. That means notifications look sharper and easier to read. It also comes with fun Glyph Toys like a battery meter and a timer. You also get a digital clock and a Glyph Mirror.

The phone is 7.9mm thin and weighs 210g. That is quite slim for a phone with such a big screen. The IP65 rating protects it from dust and water jets. You can buy it in Silver, Black or Pink.

Display

The screen is big and bright. The 6.83-inch AMOLED display has 1.5K resolution so text and photos look very sharp. With 10-bit colour and HDR10+ your videos look rich and full of life.

The refresh rate adjusts from 30Hz to 144Hz. Scrolling feels very smooth and the phone saves battery when you are not moving anything. The 2160Hz PWM dimming is also kind to your eyes in low light.

At 5,000 nits of peak brightness the screen is easy to see in bright sunlight. That is a big help on sunny days in Nepal. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the screen and the in-display fingerprint sensor lets you unlock with one touch.

Performance

The phone has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip. It is built on a 4nm process by TSMC. One main core runs up to 2.8GHz and four more strong cores help it. Three small cores handle light work to save power. This makes daily use feel fast and smooth. Apps open quickly and scrolling feels easy.

You get fast LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. That means apps load faster and files copy quickly. In Nepal the phone comes in the 12GB + 256GB model. This is a great fit for office workers and students. It also suits people who use many apps at the same time. Gaming is fine for casual play. If you want top speed for heavy games a more powerful phone may suit you better. There is no memory card slot but 256GB is plenty for most people.

Software

The phone runs Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16. It is clean and simple. You will not find many extra apps you do not need. The dot-matrix look is fun and matches the phone’s style. The Glyph Matrix also works with the always-on display so you can check things at a glance.

Camera

The camera is a strong part of this phone. The 50MP main camera uses a Sony LYT 700C sensor with OIS. This keeps your photos clear and your hands steady in low light. Next to it is a 50MP periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom. It is great for portraits and for shots of faraway things. There is also an 8MP ultra-wide camera for group photos and big views.

For selfies and video calls there is a 32MP front camera. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip also has a better image processor than the one in the Phone (4a). This gives the Pro a small edge in photo quality.

Battery

The 5,080mAh battery is made to last a full day of normal use. That means calls and chats and videos and some gaming. When it runs low the 50W fast charging fills it up quickly. A charger does not come in the box so you will need to buy a compatible adapter.

Connectivity

• Dual SIM (Nano)
• 5G
• Wi-Fi 6 (dual-band)
• Bluetooth 5.4
• GPS and NFC
• USB Type-C
